Pavilion party and classic car parade show we're tops for community spirit

The De La Warr Pavilion showed the truth behind the saying that a picture is worth a thousand words on Bank Holiday Monday.

The recreation of the classic 1936 Daily Mirror Eight scene was a fantastic success.

A huge amount of people showed up - some in 1930s costume - giving photographer Sheila Burnett the perfect material to work with in order to rework the old shot.

Not only that, after a week of blustery rainy conditions, the weather was exceptionally kind - ensuring that people who were considering going along were not put off at the last minute.

As the pictures printed this week show, sometimes circumstances (and a lot of hard work behind the scenes) can combine to form something special.

The De La Warr Pavilion has promised to consider staging similar events in the future, and most people in Bexhill - and further afield - would be delighted to see more.

But this event wasn't the only success of the Bank Holiday weekend - Bexhill 100 Motoring Club held its best ever classic car show in all the group's eight years.

With a bumper number of entries in all sorts of categories, the show was a riot of colour and had something for everybody.

As the letter from Cllr Paul Lendon says, there is a terrific community spirit in this town which is no doubt a solid reason why Bexhill topped the Halifax's survey of seaside towns in terms of quality of life.

A big well done to all those who organised and took part in these two wonderful events.
