Postal workers pushed into strike

IT will be interesting to see what support our postal workers receive for taking strike action and the effect this will have on the town's delivery service.

Royal Mail employees feel caught between a rock and a hard place both with the looming threat of privatisation of the service and the current cutbacks.

The Bexhill delivery office still has six unfilled job vacancies - and the post is piling up, causing a great deal of frustration amongst the staff.

Bexhill is the sort of town where elderly residents especially have day-to-day contact with their postman - and it is likely any delivery that doesn't take place due to the strike will be sorely missed.

Even in the age of the internet, the post still plays a vital role in daily life.

Businesses by and large use e-mail now, but postal deliveries of important documents and parcels are still needed and in today's fast-moving world, it is more vital than ever these reach the right place in time.

The post office is an important part of any community and it is sad to have seen so many branches shut down over recent years.

However frustrating the promised strike is for residents and businesses, it's clear the postal workers feel pushed into taking action as a last resort.

As ever, it appears the government is not listening.

Notorious Marsh Road

IT'S happened again - another serious road traffic crash on the A259 near the junction with the B2095 at Hooe.

This notorious stretch of road, where the Marsh Road curves with a tight turnoff into the B-road by the Lamb Inn, has seen many accidents over the years, some fatal.

Visibility at the junction is very poor, especially if you are turning out of the B-road onto the A259.

This stretch of road really needs to be looked at by the county council.

Surely some work could be done to improve visibility there, or the county could consider a drop in the speed limit.

This could help to save distress - and lives - in the future.
