Prochak boot sends out the wrong message
THE decision to eject a member of the Next Wave steering group from the panel because she didn't agree with the majority flies in the face of the values of a democratic society.
Rother's scheme to regenerate Bexhill's seafront is a massive undertaking which many in the town feel is being forced down their throats.
Cllr Sue Prochak of the Liberal Democrats might have been the only voice of dissent on the steering group - but a difference of opinion naturally provides a platform for healthy debate.
The long-reaching implications and the cost of Next Wave make it imperative to be done just right.
This includes taking into account all viewpoints so a solution can be found which will be beneficial for all of Bexhill.
Yes the council is under timescale pressures from CABE, but this does not excuse ditching someone whose heart is basically in the right place.
This move sends out completely the wrong message, and will just reinforce the view of those Bexhillians who feel they never get listened to.
Terrific vision for triathlon event
ON a more positive note, Bexhill really showed its worth this week.
The town hosted a high-profile triathlon event, courtesy of the Lions, and what a success it was.
The town is uniquely placed to hold such an event.
There is level ground for the runners and cyclists, and a beautiful seaside location for the sea swim - much more exciting than watching swimmers doing lengths in a pool.
The sun was out, athletes and supporters had a great time and a lot of money was raised for charity.
Not only that trade in the town centre was up thanks to the crowds of people who turned out for the event.
So well done the Lions Club for having the vision and drive to make this triathlon possible.
