Town will rise up to fight this landfill site

THE idea of placing a massive landfill site at Ashdown Brickworks is most unpalatable.

Yes, the county council has decided to name the site as the only landfill spot in the new Waste Local Plan, despite the unsuitability of the location.

It is no longer a "possible" landfill site in the eyes of East Sussex County Council – it's a definite.

The county hopes to schedule work to begin in 2012, a mere three years away.

The semi-residential nature of the area, the poor road access through Peartree Lane and the sensitive environmental nature of nearby Highwoods makes this a highly emotive issue.

In this day and age, landfill should no longer be the answer to the county's waste problems.

Are the residents of Bexhill going to fight this? You bet.

Go and see the designs

THE wrappings have finally been taken off the designs for Rother Council's plans to upgrade the seafront under Next Wave.

On pages eight and nine, we have architects' images of how the seafront could look in the future.

If you have a view on the subject, take a look and go along to the exhibition at Bexhill Museum tomorrow (Saturday) where the design team will be on hand to explain the thoughts behind the plans and answer any questions.

We're on board

AN HONOUR board listing those given the Freedom of Bexhill is a great idea.

Not only will it show the town's appreciation for the Oarsome Foursome, who were granted the honour in August, it will be a lasting tribute to all those who have been given the Freedom of Bexhill, past and present.

It would be great to see the achievements of these special people set in stone, as it were, and have their names listed for all to see.
