Vandals should have thought of consequences

ON the crime front, Bexhill is usually a fairly quiet place.

But this week not only have we seen vandals go on a trail of destruction smashing car windows, but teenagers destroying a disabled woman's scooter vehicle.

In both instances police were able to track down the offenders thanks to eagle-eyed members of the public.

Those tempted to vent their frustration or relieve their boredom by smashing up other people's property should really consider the consquences first.

Not only could they end up with a criminal record, the impact on the victim can be pretty unpleasant.

For a disabled person, their scooter is a lifeline - a means to keeping their independence by remaining mobile and able to get out and about.

So would-be vandals, think before you smash.

You'd be saving yourselves a lot of bother as well as not running the risk of ruining somebody else's life.

Bexhill digs deep for Haiti appeal

DESPITE the still out-of-kilter economy, Bexhill is really showing its generous side by residents' reaction to the Haiti earthquake disaster.

Everywhere you look, schools, churches and community groups are organising events and holding fundraising drives in aid of the DEC appeal to provide for those affected by the quake.

One particularly heart-warming story is that of Bexhill Rotary Club, whose ShelterBox appeal raked in the princely sum of 1,000 in one week.

That cash is being put to good use - that's two more ShelterBoxes, which provide shelter and equipment for families made homeless by natural disaster, on the way to those who need them the most.
