Colleagues at a Yorkshire Building Society agency in Bexhill-on-Sea got in the saddle to raise more than £140 for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
The fundraising at Yorkshire Building Society’s agency at M& W Associates, on Devonshire Square, saw staff taking it in turns to try and accomplish the distance of the first stage of the Tour de France, 190 kilometres, on a static bike.
“The event was very successful and we were pleased to have raised so much for Marie Curie Cancer Care. I’d like to thank all the businesses that joined in and also to Lidl who donated water on the day,” said Anita Morley, principal of M& W Associates.
“As Yorkshire Building Society is an official supporter of the Tour de France 2014 Grand Départ and Marie Curie is the official charity partner it made perfect sense to set ourselves a cycling challenge to celebrate the world’s largest annual sporting event visiting our country.”
The sponsored bike ride was in aid of ‘Hour of Need’ – the new fundraising campaign by the Society and Marie Curie Cancer Care to raise £500,000 by December 2016, which equates to funding an hour of care by a Marie Curie Nurse for every hour of the campaign.
