Bexhill High parents are disappointed head of school Darren Gelder was not shortlisted for the top job of principal with interviews now complete.
Mum Gaynor Fuller set up an online petition in support of him, with over 220 signatures, and told the Observer of strong support for Mr Gelder from parents she spoke with.
She added: “We are just really gutted. He has turned the school around so much and yet he has not been shortlisted. There is a lot of respect for the children. I have two children here at the moment and he has done well with them. He stands out there and greets the children on their way in.
“He and Andy Mortimer have worked together and brought the school up tremendously. It has just become a community school which it wasn’t before.”
Leslie Stephen, Chief Executive of Prospects Academies Trust, said:
“Bexhill High is recruiting a new permanent Principal, who will take the Academy forward. A rigorous, independent recruitment process has begun and interviews will take place shortly. I am delighted that the quality of applicants has been high. It is vital that Bexhill High is able to appoint an experienced senior education leader with a strong track record of leading schools to become excellent. There is a very achievable challenge at the Academy and I look forward to working with right person, once appointed, to bring about further improvements. An update will be given once an appointment has been made. In the meantime, students at Bexhill High continue to benefit from committed teachers, who are passionate about supporting them to achieve more and encourage them in their aspirations.”
