Thousands lined the streets for Rye’s big bonfire celebrations on Saturday.

The fire site on the Salts was boggy underfoot but rain held off on the night for the spectacular firework display.

Bonfire societies from all over Sussex took part in the torchlit procession through the streets of the town and they were joined by a strong contingent from Rye College’s Samba band.

The fire was lit this year by former Bonfire Society chairman John Izod.
