Police officers are asking locals to report beggars so they can be put in touch with support services.
Bexhill Police wants people to call the force’s non-emergency line 101 if they are concerned about beggars in and around the town.
Spokesman Mark Evans said it would allow the police to pro-actively deal with the problems and, where necessary, refer people to local food banks or other support on offer.
In his weekly message, the police spokesman also warned Bexhill residents to be on their guard against cold callers or potential conmen.
He said: “Under no circumstances should you let somebody into your house unless it is somebody you know and trust.
“Remember to always report suspicious activity to us at the earliest opportunity.”
