Promoting the great work of Bexhill Rotary Club

It was another opportunity to promote the activities of the work that Rotary does to support local, national and international charities when John Coles, President of Bexhill Rotary Club and Vernon Findlay, chairman of PR and communications committee were invited to be interviewed on Bexhill FM.

Bexhill FM operates from Bexhill High School for two weeks each year and aims to bring the community together with a combination of music, interviews and chat.

It is an excellent opportunity for young people to demonstrate the skills they have learnt at school and college.

John and Vernon were interviewed by Louis Walker and were proud to be able to remind listeners about Rotary activities in the community. These start with the youngest; Reading Partners is where Rotarians and others work with individuals or small groups to help them with reading and comprehension.

This can be extremely rewarding, particularly when these primary school students say things like, “thank you so much, it has really helped” or,” I remember how you showed me how to read difficult words”.

Interact is a club for ages 12-18. Members have fun while carrying out service projects and learning about the world. Interact clubs organise at least two service projects a year: one that benefits their community and one that encourages international understanding.

Last year, the club at St Richards College raised £128 for the End Polio Now campaign.

They also give excellent support to the tea party and the Mustard Seed Relief Mission Shoe Box Appeal.

Youth Speaks is an opportunity for young people to showcase their public speaking skills. There were entries from five local schools and colleges, Claverham Community College winning through to the Regional finals.

Older people are not left out. Services for them include health awareness day, taking blind and partially sighted people to the regular party held in St Augustine’s church, helping to service hearing aids, organising an annual Christmas party and helping to assemble and deliver Christmas hampers.
