Royal British Legion Women’s Section Little Common

At our July meeting our speaker was Julian Porter from Bexhill Museum and his subject was Lady Brassey, who lived at Normanhurst Castle Catsfield for a time. Unfortunately the building no longer exists and is now a caravan park, and her connection to the De La Warr and Ashburnham families.

She spent nearly a year travelling the world with her family on their luxury yacht Sunbeam and collecting interesting objects from the countries she visited, some of which are on display at the Brassey Institute now Hastings Library and some items are at Bexhill museum.

She also wrote several books and her husband Earl Brassey was once mayor of Bexhill.

A very interesting subject enjoyed by all.
