One of the councillors for St Michael’s ward was formally appointed as mayor of Bexhill.

Former deputy mayor and Rother District Councillor Simon Elford was promoted at a ceremony on Wednesday, May 18.

St Mark’s ward representative Tom Graham will be deputy mayor.

This follows the tradition of the deputy becoming mayor after 2015’s ceremony went against it when Cllr Maurice Watson was made mayor instead of Stuart Earl.

The mayor is chosen by the Bexhill Charter Trustees which comprises of all 18 district councillors who represent the town.
