The blurry photograph of the ‘Sussex Bigfoot’ which went viral this week was simply a man in a gorilla suit, the PR firm behind the stunt has claimed.

Rustington dog-walker Caroline Toms’ picture, taken in the Angmering Park Estate, hit the headlines across national newspapers and radio after first appearing on this website on Monday.

But it now appears to have been the work of a new PR firm in Rustington, who say they could hardly believe the reaction it got.

Leanne Smith, a spokeswoman for Bigfoot Communications, said: “We went to the woods with our gorilla suit to see if we could generate any reported sightings of the British Bigfoot.

“Lots of unsuspecting families and walkers were snapping away on the day so we were confident it was going to make it onto Facebook and Twitter.

“Most of the images would have looked like a man in a monkey suit but, the one posted by dog walker Caroline Toms, looks like the real thing we couldn’t believe it.

“We apologise to the Sasquatch hunters out there, but this was all part of our PR launch campaign, and want to stress that Angmering Park Estate in Sussex is a safe place to go.”

Although a new venture, the national agency has been founded by a team of experienced PR and marketing specialists helping clients achieve nationwide coverage through with innovative campaigns.
