Free tickets for tomorrow night’s community fireworks at the Polegrove were snapped up within days.
Only 1,500 ticketholders will get through the gates to enjoy the celebration which is Bexhill Bonfire Society’s first in town for many years.
At last the fireworks event postponed from last year is on its way and as it is April 24 also marks St George’s Day.
This will be fun for all the family - live music starts from 6.30pm in the marquee and food and refreshment will be available with a beer tent for the grown-ups. Performing will be Georgia Faye Steele, Hellcats, and Intruda with Kidzie, but headlining after the firework show at 9pm will be Dorey The Wise.
There has been criticism that only 1,500 are allowed, as decided by Rother District Council, compared with Bexhill Carnival when many more are welcomed in.
Organiser Stuart Wray said the way tickets were collected from the De La Warr Pavilion was “fantastic” and they were all gone in six days.
“I have been looking forward to it,” he commented. “But it would not make a difference if we had 5,000, there would still be disappointed people. We have to be satisfied with what we were given this time around. We are a new society and we have to establish ourselves, that is why the limit was set by Rother District Council.” He also thanks the DLWP for its “invaluable contribution” with ticketing.
