Transport secretary visits Link Road with local MPs

The Secretary of State for Transport, Patrick McLoughlin, joined Bexhill MP Greg Barker and Hastings MP Amber Rudd, on a site visit of the Bexhill to Hastings Link Road last week.

The Transport Secretary had been invited to see the progress on the Link Road and Mr Barker said he was delighted to join the Secretary of State on his visit to the construction site to show the wider benefits the project will bring to Bexhill. He added: “As well as improving road links between Hastings and Bexhill, the Link Road project is key to providing opportunities for business development, local jobs and housing in north Bexhill. The Government recognised the vital importance of the Link Road project in the regeneration of our area and the economic growth that it will bring.”

Greg said he was aware that the construction of the new road was causing disruption to the local area and was making every effort to work with East Sussex County Council (ESCC) to help alleviate problems, and said: “I appreciate that the construction of the Link Road brings with it short term difficulties for local residents, especially for the community in Sidley who have faced much disruption in recent weeks so I have been working closely with ESCC to help minimise this.

“The good news is that many stages of the project are already nearly finished and the road is on schedule for completion by May 2015.”
