A 71-year-old cyclist from Hastings is in a ‘serious but stable condition’ after falling off his bike on the seafront in St Leonards yesterday (Sunday, October 2).
Emergency services were called to A259 Eversfield Place at around 8.45am after he suffered serious head injuries in the fall.
A police spokesman said yesterday it was believed the cyclist suffered a medical episode while riding a black Boardman bicycle west along the seafront.
He was taken by ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, where he was last reported to be in a serious but stable condition, police said.
The A259 was closed to westbound traffic from the Warrior Square and the Schwerte Way until midday while emergency services were at the scene.
Eastbound traffic was diverted via Warrior Square and St Margaret’s Road.
Anyone who saw what happened or who noticed the cyclist riding prior to the incident is asked to email email@example.com or phone 101, quoting Operation Ashreed.
