Visitors flock to view stunning exhibition

The Bexhill Art Society’s 53rd annual exhibition was held at the Studio of the De La Warr Pavilion at the weekend.

A group of members, led by Rosemary Hodge and Roy Cox, set up the display beforehand and the exhibition was officially opened by James Kimber, President of the Bexhill Chamber of Commerce and Tourism, on Saturday morning.

Cllr Bridget George, Chairman of Rother District Council, also attended the launch and Roy was able to thank her personally for the grant from RDC which enabled the society to hold the exhibition once again at the DLWP.

150 framed paintings were displayed on the walls of the Studio, with more unframed work in the browsers.

Many greetings cards were also produced and these proved popular with visitors. In all, over £1,000 was taken at the weekend from the sale of 19 paintings, numerous cards and the raffle.

The visitors, numbering well over 700, were asked to vote for their favourite picture at the exhibition. Congratulations go to Jane Masters, who won with her acrylic painting of Scotney Castle. She received a voucher and the Terry Carter Cup, which she now holds for the year.

Members were delighted to have Terry Carter himself, a founder member of the Society, to present the cup, accompanied his wife Doreen.

The Society is grateful for the raffle prizes which were donated by Christine Maclean, Jane Masters, Doreen Swonnell and the Cooden Beach Hotel.

Thanks also go to all the visitors who made the weekend such an enjoyable occasion.
