Hastings and Rother Voluntary Association for the Blind has launched an appeal to find new members.

The Association is a local charity who for over 90 years has been supporting the local sight impaired within the Hastings and Rother area.

They are based at 3 Upper Maze Hill, St Leonards from where they run Healey House their residential care home which specialises for the sight impaired but is available to all. They also have the John Taplin day centre which is open Monday to Friday, providing a wide range of activities; with home cooked meals, drinks and transport in their own minibuses all at a competitive daily rate. They also hire the John Taplin out to clubs’ evenings and weekend.

They run clubs for their members in Hastings, Bexhill and Mountfield, ranging from art painting, dominoes and swimming. As well as being available at the eye clinics of both the Conquest and Bexhill Hospital, they will guide you through the registration process of sight impairment as well as visiting you in your own home to offer advice, support and to give help. They offer courses to help and advise the newly registered to help them understand what is happening, help and advice.

They offer access to Hastings and Bexhill Talking Newspaper and the Blind Bowlers.

The Association has two charity shops in Silverhill and Bexhill to help raise much needed funds.

They are looking for volunteers to help in a variety of ways, from helping in the charity shops, to driving or escorting on minibuses, or helping with a supermarket collection. If you can spare a few hours and would like to help call 01424 436359.
