White Rock gets one of West End's best thrillers in Woman in Black

Preview: Woman in Black, White Rock Theatre, April 12 until April 17.

Culture vultures are in for a spine-chilling treat next month as the White Rock welcomes one of the most critically acclaimed West End productions of recent years.

The Woman in Black recently celebrated its 21st year in the capital and is currently on its tenth UK tour.

It was first performed back in 1987 in the less than salubrious surroundings of a theatre in Scarborough before moving to the West End within two years.

Since then it has been seen by more than seven million people and become one of the most loved pieces of modern theatre.

Adapted from Susan Hill's best-selling novel, The Woman in Black tells the story of a lawyer obsessed with a curse which he believes has been cast over him and his family by the spectre. He engages a young actor to help tell his story and exorcise the fear that grips his soul.

It begins innocently enough, but as they reach further into his darkest memories, they find themselves caught up in a world of eerie marshes and moaning winds.

The borders between make believe and reality begin to blur and the flesh begins to creep.

Robert Demeger returns to perform the role of Arthur Kipps, a role he has played both in the West End and on tour.

He is joined by Peter Bramhill who will perform the role of the Young Actor. Bramhill was nominated for the prestigious Ian Charleson Award for his performance in Thomas Moore for the RSC.

One not to miss. Although be prepared to watch certain bits from behind your seat.
