Youngsters make a splash for special needs charity

A Battle Abbey Prep School student has taken part in a sponsored swim to raise funds for local charity Special Kids Bexhill.

Dominic Harvey, 9, volunteered to do the swim and raised around £160 for the charity which provides holiday activities for children and young adults with special needs and support meetings for parents and carers.

Other swimmers complete the sponsored swim on July 13 at St Mary’s pool. Due to holiday commintments Dominic couldn’t make this event and mum Tracie and Battle Abbey Prep School arranged for him to do the swim early in the school’s pool.

Chair of Special Kids Bexhill, Sharon Minter, said everyone at the charity is grateful to Dominic. “We thank everyone who has sponsored Dominic, those who have organised this brilliant fundraising event, the other children who are taking part and their sponsors.”

Money raised will go towards Christmas activities, including a party, a visit to a pantomime and ice skating. Sharon said: “Without these much needed funds we wouldn’t be able to provide these activities which the children, siblings and parents all enjoy so much.”
