A small amount of people are pictured at the Peace Pole as an example of how different beliefs can be put aside and people united.
On the front cover of the Bexhill Observer a much larger number are pictured at a carnival with a peace theme. The Hastings Observer on its front page has an even bigger gathering for Pirate day.
People don’t have any problem coming together in peace. Today (Saturday, July 22) thousands will gather for the Bexhill Roaring 20s. No one will be divided by race or religion.
When we focus on our differences and then try to make peace, it is the differences that always win.
We are no different in the supermarket, in the work place, in the school play ground, in leisure activities. Peace is natural.
As the Prophet Muhammad said – the greatest struggle is within ourselves. We need to be individual ‘peace poles’ wherever we go.
