It should give people a voice

Have your say

Once upon a time a decision was made to allow the good people of Bexhill to set up a voice for the town to allow them to air their views opinions, and ask questions which in turn were carried back to RDC.

The chairman at the time was the admirable Margaret Jones (a Lib Dem) not my personal political persuasion, but an excellent chairman who believed in true democracy.

The secretarial work plus an officer from RDC were present but did not usually contribute.

At the meeting held last Tuesday I was appalled to hear of the bullying, extremely rude and aggressive behaviour of the chairman.

He should be ashamed of his disgraceful outburst directed to the founder of the forum, is this really the type of person we want to speak on behalf of the residents of Bexhill?

This is a man who cannot control his temper, a man who instead of conducting himself as a chairman dictates who can speak and what they can say in the public arena.

Whilst it is appreciated the forum needs to inform, the very reason it exists is to set the agenda for debate, to have a vehicle to ask the awkward question of our politicians/developers and anyone else who thinks they can destroy or even improve the quality of life for our residents, but mainly it is to allow the people of Bexhill to have a voice.

If you take any formal position on behalf of others you must listen more than you speak, wisdom and common sense plus respect will never be the gift of a dictator.

My, how things have changed!

We now have a chairman who believes he is God and some of the committee his disciples who obviously do not have the ability or courage to challenge his arbitrary point of view.

Neither the chairman or secretary should have the authority to make policy without a clear mandate from the members something to-date they have not been given.

When challenged regarding the proposed changes to the constitution at a previous meeting, the chairman and secretary threatened to resign because they did not get their own way.

How dare the minions of Bexhill have an opinion or deem to be clever enough to ask questions of the endless developers officers, and so called experts who dominate this new undemocratic forum.

While I support the need for an independent forum, we must resist at all cost it becoming the voice of RDC, we need to consult and engage but not to get into bed with those who wish to destroy the opinions and voice of the residents.
