Regarding the excellent letter(Observer, August 14) ‘Are we now struck with this lorry?’ which resides in peaceful splendour on the Western promenade of Bexhill .
I note Sussex Police are as proactive as ever and given up on the case.
Whilst I accept they are forever pleading budget cuts and the public must deal with all crimes almost up to murder and theft from premises with odd numbers only have we not reached a limit?
Even the most cursory check of this lorry shows a telephone number, email address, company name and plates which I would hope would be a starting point for any police officer just out of the police college.
Can I submit a possible solution. If I supply a map and grid reference could Sussex Police venture out into the wilds of Bexhill tow the lorry into police custody and treat as found property for the period laid down by statute and if not claimed or found to be used for criminal purpose sell the lorry and contents and all profit goes to St Michael’s Hospice!
Perhaps not a process by the book!
I am of course aware of manpower problems in the police service not helped when officers are detached to Spain on ‘Sunny Patrol’ but just maybe Sussex Police can crack this case before more lorries are found residing on this lovely prom.
