MORE than 200 people flocked to Camber Sands on Saturday to watch Rye Rugby Club's Annual Tag Rugby Festival on Saturday.
MORE than 200 people flocked to Camber Sands on Saturday to watch Rye Rugby Club's Annual Tag Rugby Festival last Saturday.

Lisa Auckland, from the Club, said: "Many brought a picnic and some children swam and played in the sea.

"Tag rugby is a fast exciting game where tagging takes the place of tackling. There are no rucks, scrums or lineouts so it is very safe and easy to understand."

Eighteen teams drawn from local schools, businesses pubs and clubs entered for the five-aside contest.

Organiser and Coach, Jeremy Knobbs, was delighted with the turnout and enthusiasm of the players and spectators. He said: "We had double the number from last year. It was great to see so many families out enjoying the day."

The Festival Cup was won by The Gymcats, and the challenge plate went to the curiously named Romney Marsh Mountain Rescue Team.

Rye Rugby Club is a friendly active organization with a fast-growing membership, especially in the women and girls teams. For more information visit www.ryerugby.com.
