A Battle woman has been fined for fly-tipping on her own door-step.
Sharp eyed members of the public spotted Samantha Gower, of Mountjoy, Battle, dumping a large quantity of polystyrene block in the Mountjoy area and noted her car registration number.

The incident took place on January 19 this year. She appeared before magistrates at Hastings earlier this month charged with the illegal depositing of controlled waste, an offence under section 33 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

She was fined £50 with costs of £365 awarded to Rother District Council.

A spokesman for Rother Council said: "The waste consisted of a large quantity of polystyrene blocks, covering a large area.

"The registered keeper of the vehicle was traced and the offender, who was using her works vehicle, was subsequently identified and formally interviewed by Council Officers.

"he prosecution was successful due to the actions of three members of the public."
