A tourist guide which hit the headlines after mistakenly putting the Duke of Wellington at the Battle of Hastings, has been selling well in Battle.
The first copy of the Battle Town Map and Guide, distributed to advertisers and the town council, mistakenly claimed the duke, famous for his triumph at the Battle of Waterloo, was at the 1066 battlefield -700 years before his birth.

But the guide, by Cityscape Maps, has since been reprinted, with William the Conqueror back in his rightful place in history, and has proved a hit with tourists.

The guide is selling well and machines that dispense the map need to be topped up on a regular basis, Cllr Ron Harris told fellow town councillors at a recent meeting.

Chairman Cllr Harris said: "They have done well and should benefit from it."
