There is anger in Rye this morning as the town is without a post office for the second time in a matter of weeks.
The Post Office has been closed since Friday following a dispute between Post Office Counters and the Post Master.

It is widely rumoured that a new Post Office counter will open shortly at Budgens supermarket, which is close to the exisiting building.

Rye MP Michael Foster is furious with the closure and is calling for an emergency debate in the House of Commons.
He said: "The Post Office tell me they could not have foreseen this, but they should have back-up measures in place.

"They have let down the Rye public."

The MP says the situation also underlines the folly of closing Tilling Green Post Office.

He said: "If we still had the Tilling Green branch it would not be so much of a problem."

The Post Office was today running a free bus service from Rye to other rural post office branches.
