Rye MP Michael Foster has welcomed a fall in crime in the Rother area.
Police recorded crime in Rother fell nine percent in the 12 months to March.

Even more impressive falls have been recorded for specific crimes with violence against the person down 24%, vehicle theft down 11% and robbery down 15%.

Mr Foster said: "This is great news for the area. I want to congratulate the Police, the Rother Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership and everyone else who has played a part in achieving these incredible reductions.

"The increase in PCSOs and neighbourhood policing is really paying off. Not only are they a friendly face on the street but the intelligence gathering role they play is vital in fighting crime and disorder.

"However, recent national polls have shown fear of crime to be increasing.

"Surveys have shown that peoples' perception of crime is that it is rising nationally but falling in their local area" said the MP.

"Clearly both cannot be right. Crime has visibly fallen in Rother and I hope residents will trust their own experiences rather than dramatic newspaper headlines."
