A Summer Fayre held in Beckley Village Centre on Saturday was a great success raising £506.84 for the Samaritans.
Event organiser Margaret E. Loveridge said: "It was a fantastic day.

People we have never met were coming to the hall with donations for the Samaritans, bringing in furniture, prizes, bric-a-brac.

"It really was quite amazing. I had no idea just how much people appreciate what the Samaritans do – we even had a fridge donated by Mrs Reed of Beckley.

"I would like to thank everyone who made a donation. Without their help this event would not have been so successful.

"My grateful thanks go to all the helpers on the day, not forgetting Sally and Ruby who ran the refreshments and kept us all sustained with tea and coffee throughout the morning. Also the three boys who were in charge of car parking - they did a great job."

A spokesperson for the Samaritans said: "This is wonderful. As with all Samaritan branches, we are responsible for generating all our own funds and every single penny we get helps to pay essential bills and publicise Samaritans.

"We are always grateful to everyone who raises money on our behalf, and so are absolutely delighted to receive over £500. A very big thank-you to Margaret and all who were involved with this Summer Fayre – it really is very much appreciated".
