More County judo success for Zodiac

Zodiac Judo Club has continued its rich history of success at a foremost county competition.
The local outfit's 21-strong squad returned from the Sussex County Junior and Senior Closed Trials in Worthing with six gold, six silver and four bronze medals.

Four junior and two senior players took first places and were due to represent Sussex at the Southern Area Inter-Counties Team Championships on Sunday.

The players who took second and third positions will be a part of the county squad for the coming year.

Senior member Matthew Cowell, who fought at under-66 kilos level, won the event for the eighth consecutive year.

Craig Maclean (u30 kilos) was awarded the 'Spirit of Judo' Trophy and Alex Winborn (o66 kilos) the Lawrie Suckling Memorial Trophy for her competitive effort.

Results: Juniors - Christopher Ling u30k gold, Liam Maclean u38k gold, Alice Maclean u40k gold, Alex Winborn o66k gold, Ricky Jenkins u30k silver, Charlie Maclean u50k silver, Ashley Wright u52k silver, Ben Urban u66k silver, Luke Reid u73k silver, Keiron Kelly u27k bronze,Clarissa Swain o66k bronze, Craig Maclean u30k, Craig Swain u55k, Conrad Swain u50k, Elliott White u50k.

Seniors - Matthew Cowell u66k gold, Aaron Church u81k gold, Chelsea Wright u63k silver, Quentin Houldey u90k bronze, Ben Cowell o90k bronze, Sam Werrit u73k.
