Bexhill gunning for revenge

Bexhill will be looking to avenge their one defeat of the summer when they welcome Worthing to The Polegrove today (Saturday).

The promotion hopefuls went down by 23 runs in a low-scoring encounter on the opening day of the season in Division Two of the Sussex Cricket League.

"We're pretty keen to win that because they are the only team that has beaten us this year," said Bexhill first team manager Hamish Russell, who felt it was a game they should never have lost.

Since that reverse, Bexhill have notched up five wins and three draws, a sequence which has seen them rise from second-bottom to second-top.

"If we can play a little more consistently and hold our catches, then we should be okay," Russell went on. "We will go into the game full of confidence and believing we can win it.

"If we can have a second half of the season like we did the first, then we will be happy," said Russell.

Second-placed Bexhill expect to name a similar side to last week for a match due to get under way at 1pm.

Elsewhere, Sidley commence the second half of their Division Three (East) campaign today with a trip to mid-table Hellingly.

They are one of two teams to have drawn against Sidley so far - on the opening day of the season when nine wickets down.

Skipper Neil Priddy, hoping to build on two successive wins, said: "We should have beaten them but hopefully we will have learned from any mistakes and it will be a different game."

In Division One of the East Sussex League, it's Rye versus Crowhurst Park, Iden against Willingdon and third-placed Battle go to leaders Barcombe. All these games will start at 1.30pm.
