Bridger in winning Panthers debut
Speedway star Lewis Bridger made a victorious debut for new club Peterborough Panthers on Monday night.
The Bexhill-based rider scored seven points (paid nine) as the Elite League club defeated a World-Class select side which included three-time World Champions, Jason Crump and Nicki Pedersen, 56-36.
Riding at number two, Bridger began his Panthers career with a third place finish (paid second) in heat one, keeping reigning World Champion Crump behind him all the way.
After another third place in heat six, the 20-year-old swapped bikes for his third outing in heat eight and recorded his first heat win in Panthers colours.
One time Bexhill High School pupil Bridger rounded-off his first Peterborough appearance by following home his partner, Neils-Kristen Iversen, for a 5:1 in heat ten.
He will make a quick return to his spiritual home, Arlington Stadium, on Saturday when the Panthers face Eastbourne Eagles in a challenge match ahead of the new Elite League season.
Bridger left the Eagles after four seasons last winter in the belief that his career prospects, particularly in Poland, would benefit from a switch to a larger British track.
His career highlights include winning the British Under-21 Championship in 2009 and British Under-18 Championship in 2006, as well as achieving top 10 finishes in the World Under-21 Championship in each of the last three years.
