Scott Price has resigned after more than four-and-a-half years as manager of Rye United Football Club.

The 37-year-old says he has left the Sussex County League Division One club for a number of reasons. Price’s assistants Andy Laskey and Andy Thomson have also departed.

Player-coach Marc Gall and captain Anthony Storey will take charge of the side, probably for the rest of the season.“The decision wasn’t made overnight; it’s been coming,” Price said. “I kept trying to convince myself I was doing the right thing by staying, but every time I woke up I was banging my head.”

A freescoring midfielder during his playing days at Rye, Price led the club to the Sussex Division Two title in his second season as manager.

The following year he took them on a memorable journey to the quarter-finals of the FA Vase, as well as finishing second in Sussex Division One and reaching the John O’Hara League Cup final.

Last term Price guided Rye to the Sussex RUR Charity Cup for the first time since 1968 and they were within 90 minutes of winning Sussex Division One for the first time ever.

This season they reached the last 32 of the FA Vase - where they were edged out 6-5 after extra-time in an absolute thriller against a formidable Guernsey side - and still have an outside chance of the league title.
