Jimmy Robertson is all set to begin his quest to qualify for the Betfred World Snooker Championship.

The Bexhill cueman will begin his opening match in the qualifiers this afternoon (Friday) when he takes on Malaysian player Thor Chuan Leong.

The first session in the best of 19 frames contest at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield will take place from 2.30pm with the second session following at the same time tomorrow.

World number 125 Leong has played in three World Snooker ranking events this season and has yet to record a win, although he was only beaten 4-3 by 10th-ranked Stuart Bingham at the Welsh Open.

If world number 42 Robertson comes through that match, he will face 55th-ranked Kyren Wilson or 114th-ranked Thai player Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon in round two of the qualifiers on Monday.

The winner of that match will advance to the third and final round of the qualifiers on Tuesday and Wednesday when a place alongside the world’s top 16 players at The Crucible in Sheffield later this month will be up for grabs.

Robertson, 28, has qualified for the sport’s premier event once before back in 2011 when he came up against current world number one Mark Selby.
