Park's eight-year reign finally over
Crowhurst Park's amazing run of victories in the Gordon Busbridge Trophy came to a crushing end at Horntye Park Sports Complex on Wednesday night.
The Crows had won the midweek Twenty20 trophy for the past eight seasons but an indifferent batting performance meant they were always struggling against Sussex Cricket League Division Two side Lewes Priory.
Only Martin Menezes (24) and Chris Philcox (26) offered any real resistance as Park fell well short of a respectable total, finishing on 81 all out with almost six overs remaining.
However, Park put in a spirited display in the field which included a superb catch by Ed Smissen to see the end of the dangerous Nick Seager.
Accurate bowling from Lindfield (1-12 off 4 overs), Paul Brookes (2-18 off 4) and Victor Walcott (1-12 off 4) reduced Lewes 62-6, but they got home without further loss off the first ball of the 18th over.
This year's competition - run for the first time by the East Area Cricket Association - was expanded to include teams from outside 1066 Country.
A full report will appear in tomorrow's Hastings and Battle Observers.
