Priory beaten by local rivals

Hastings Priory Cricket Club was soundly beaten by local rivals Eastbourne on Saturday afternoon.

Priory went down by seven wickets in the Premier Division of the Sussex League after failing to put enough runs on the board for the third time in four matches.

Jason Finch's side was bowled out for just 153 after winning the toss and electing to bat at The Saffrons, John Morgan top-scoring with 35 followed closely by Finch with 34.

Eastbourne encountered few problems reaching their target thanks largely to the Sussex trio of Ragheb Aga (59 not out), Ben Brown (28) and Tom Smith (28 not out).

With the sides around them also losing, Priory actually moved up a place to fourth-bottom but they still have plenty of work to do over the second half of the campaign.

Elsewhere, Bexhill strengthened their bid for promotion from Division Two with a five-wicket victory at home to Worthing – their fifth win in six matches.

Bexhill restricted Worthing – the only team they've lost to this season - to 201-9 after winning the toss and choosing to field with Rob Hoad claiming 4-36.

Malcolm Johnson (49), David Lowery (46) and Shaun Austin (45 not out) were the main contributors in the successful run chase.

In Division Three (East), Sidley dropped a place to third after having to settle for a draw in a high-scoring clash away to Hellingly.

The hosts scored 267-6 having been put into bat with two wickets each for Neil Priddy and Brendan O'Leary, and Sidley replied with 265-8, Bob Phillips top-scoring on 49.
