Rye's Blincow to open against Lashings XI

Martin Blincow was bowled over after receiving the opportunity of a cricketing lifetime.

The Rye CC all-rounder will play against some of the sport's leading names courtesy of Observer Sport and Style Entertainments.

Blincow will open the bowling for a 1066 Sporting Club XI against the Lashings World XI at The Polegrove in Bexhill on Thursday August 9.

He said: "We all watch these guys play on TV, but to actually play against them will be great. I'm very pleased indeed and I will look forward to it."

Blincow was the winner of a promotion run during the last month in which readers were asked to nominate the person who most deserved this fabulous prize.

He received five nominations in recognition of his work with youth players and the Hastings & District Cricket Association.

In terms of his cricket, Blincow has played for Rye since 1983, taking more than 40 wickets almost every year and supplying useful runs just about anywhere in the batting order.

He will also receive four match tickets and VIP passes to the corporate hospitality marquee, plus dinner and bed and breakfast at The High Beech Hotel.

Blincow will face a Lashings squad which has contained the likes of Richie Richardson, Courtney Walsh, Mark Waugh, Alvin Kallicharran and Shoaib Akhtar in past seasons.

Tickets for the match can be purchased from the De La Warr Pavilion Box Office on 229111 or Hastings Information Centre on 0845 274 1001.

Credit card bookings can be made on 451128.

Admission, which will include a matchday programme, is priced at 10 for adults, 6 for under-16s/senior citizens and 25 for a special family ticket (2 adults & 2 children).
