United upbeat for visit of Canvey

Hastings United go into their game at home to Canvey Island today (Saturday) buoyed by their performance in midweek.

The U's fought out a 1-1 draw away to higher grade Lewes in round three of the Sussex Senior Cup on Wednesday night.

Manager Tony Dolby said: "Overall with the chances we had we were a bit disappointed not to win. We conceded a silly early goal but hit back straight away and thought we might have gone on to win it. We will just have to finish the job off back at our place."

Dolby was particularly pleased with new signing Tyrone Sterling. He added: "He gives us a bit more balance as another left footer and some more competition for places which is always healthy. I thought he played exceptionally well at Lewes.

"It will be a massive boost having Ade Olorunda back from his ban on Saturday but he will be a bit rusty and Liam Upton is only just coming back. It's a difficult time but we need to get a win come what may."

Dolby also admitted he is still looking to strengthen the squad. He said: "I am looking at a couple of things and would hope to bring in one more player as we have a few guys on dual registration."

Goalkeeper Greg Nessling is still a couple of weeks away from a first team return, so Steve Williams will continue to deputise.

The Lewes replay has been pencilled in for Tuesday with a 7.45pm kick-off at The Pilot Field, while the trip to Wealdstone, postponed 10 days ago, has been re-arranged for Tuesday March 9.
