The conductor is Derek Carden who travels from London especially to conduct the Hastings Sinfonia and the leader is professional violinist and teacher Peter Fields who has played in many of the great English orchestras.

The concert will include many well known works such as: Mars from the Planet Suite by Gustav Holst, First Movement of the Second Piano Concerto by Rachmaninov, O Sole Mio by Eduardo di Capua, Chanson De Matin by Edward Elgar, Radetsky March by Johann Strauss, Waltz Of The Flowers from the Nutcracker Suite by Tchaikovsky Gabriel’s Oboe by Ennio Morricone (Oboe: Gail Taylor) and The Waltz Duet from The Merry Widow by Franz Léhar.

Guest soloists include pianist Howard Southern, who studied piano at RCM London, and was a semi-finalist at the 2002 Paris ‘Concours des Grands Amateurs,’ Thomasin Trezise, professional soprano who is currently performing with Glyndebourne, and Gary Marriot, a tenor who has played many leading opera roles.

Chair Sandra Goodsell said: “The Hastings Sinfonia has built a reputation for playing popular melodic classical music, most pieces are fairly short and the programme very varied including a few well known opera highlights. It is therefore ideal for people new to classical music as well as serious music lovers. Once again we have fantastic soloists, offering further diversity to our exciting programme.

The Hastings Sinfonia prides itself in being a friendly inclusive orchestra, who values its members. New players are most welcome.

Our concert schedule in 2015 included giving two short interactive concerts to local primary schools along with a fun concert at the old town, Fish Festival, as well as our two main concerts at St John the Evangelist, St Leonards-on-Sea.”
