The countdown has begun to Adam Hepkin’s newest installment of productions and rehearsals are now in full swing for The Magic of Rodgers and Hammerstein at The White Rock Theatre on May 1 at 7.30pm.

Adam said: “I have always loved the music of the famous duo and it occurred to me that you rarely hear the songs performed as they were intended; with a full orchestra and a large ensemble. The cast have been hard at work for what will be an evening of some of the best music ever written for the stage.”

The Magic of Rodgers and Hammerstein is a spectacular concert, featuring favourite songs from the golden age of musical theatre sung by leading West End soloists from shows such as Les Miserables and The Phantom of the Opera, a huge community choir and the Sussex Concert Orchestra with conductor, Kenneth Roberts.

The evening is hosted and narrated by star of stage and screen and ‘Sixth Doctor’, Colin Baker, and features the songs Some Enchanted Evening, Oh, What A Beautiful Mornin, Mister Snow, Do Re Mi, There Is Nothing Like A Dame, Oklahoma, If I Loved You, Climb Ev’ry Mountain and many more.

“I am delighted to have Colin on board; he will be guiding the audience through each musical, revealing some little known facts and humorous anecdotes about the pair and their music. Rodgers and Hammerstein are thought of as the fathers of musical theatre, so it seems fitting to have a performer of Colin’s experience to lead us through the evening. We are joined by soloists Rachael Louise Miller who has played roles such as Eponine in the West End Production of Les Miserables and the Narrator in Joseph; Fiona Finsbury who is currently starring in the West End production of The Phantom of the Opera and Christopher Ragland who has appeared in shows such as Avenue Q and Little Shop of Horrors. In addition we have Adam Hepkin’s ‘Emerging Artists’ who are all studying at (or hope to go on to) some of the UK’s top drama schools as well as a children’s chorus from The Theatre Workshop to support the fifty-strong community choir.”

“This production has everything; a celebrity host, soloists direct from the West End, a fantastic choir, a superb orchestra and a children’s cast of immense talent and we are delighted that it has it’s first showing at The White Rock.”

This promises to be an unforgettable evening, where the soaring melodies and imminently hummable songs of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein take centre stage.
