Bexhill Amateur Theatrical Society (BATS) are searching for a talented actor to play the lead role in their upcoming production of Shakespeare’s ‘Taming of the Shrew.’
BATS’ epic, lavish production will be performed at the De La Warr Pavilion, April 3-5, in honour of Shakespeare’s 450th birthday. Director Mike Poole said they are looking for a very special man with a good stage presence and a good, clear speaking voice to play Petruchio, adding: “The play, set in the sophisticated style of Gatsby’s 1920s.
“Natascia Mazzucato will be playing the fiery heroine, Katharina, but she needs a strong partner to play Petruchio, the man who tries to “tame” her. It’s a complex part, he has to be unpleasant to a lot of people but still keep the audience sympathy. It’s the original battle of the sexes. He is marrying for money. She is marrying against her will. They both want to be in charge – and amidst the fighting and screaming, they don’t notice that they may be falling in love!”
