27th year of recital series continues to be “brilliant”

The third concert in the summer organ recital series at All Saints church in Hastings will be on Monday July 27 at 7.30pm.

Organiser Marion Lovell said: “We give a very warm welcome to Dr David Flood from Canterbury Cathedral. He will exploit all the lovely variety of sounds on the magnificent Father Willis Organ by playing music by Bach, Vierne, Franck, Peeters, Jongen, Scandinavian composer Skogedal, our English Elgar and concluding with Widor. Refreshments are available in the interval. Tickets are £8 at the door.”

A large audience came to the second concert to hear Daniel Cook, of Westminster Abbey. Marion described the event which he opened with “an amazing Fantasia and Fuge by Parry” as “utterly brilliant.” She added: “He stayed with English composers by playing works by Percy Whitlock and Elgar, concluding this group with beautiful music by William Lloyd Webber. Here was a master of his craft, using every nuance available to him. After the interval we heard a superb Toccata, Adagio and Fugue by the master of the genre, J. S. Bach. This was followed by a lovely meditation by Vierne and a dancing Schezetto by Jongen.”
