BATTLE Rotary Club visited a St Leonards School to support children raising money for an aid appeal

Pupils from West St Leonards Primary School are helping with a Rotary Club project to assist needy families in the Ukraine.

Michael Peacock, of Battle Rotary Club, visited the school to speak to children about the scheme to provide Shelter boxes to people in the former Soviet country.

The shoe-sized boxes, which Mr Peacock will take with him to the Ukraine next month, contain items ranging from children's toys to household essentials and will be given to families in need.

He informed each class about the project and explained the three different box categories - children, teenagers and household supplies.

Teacher Helen Jarvis said: "The whole school is taking part in the operation. The children can choose what they want to send following guidelines specified by the Rotary Club and were very enthusiastic at the idea of helping."
