Body Circus returns with musical extravaganza

A three-part musical event showcasing more than 50 live performances and DJ sets across the spectrum of musical genres is to take place in Hastings on October 4 and 5.

The United Colours of Rhythm is the second instalment of The Body Circus, and will swing into action on Friday, October 4, with a club night entitled B R A Z I L I C A!, at The Pig in Paradise, White Rock, Hastings.

This will feature Afro Cuban Latin, and Salsa music, with live performances from Dende samba reggae troupe and The Rhythm Section, as well as DJs, body artists and face painters.

Running from 9pm to 2am, admission is free (18+).

The main event will run for 12 hours, from noon to midnight on Saturday, October 5 at St Mary in the Castle, Pelham Crescent.

Showcasing a united front of musical diversity on two floors including the main auditorium and the crypt, there will be non-stop performances from dozens of musicians.

These include the likes of Kitten and the Hip, The Fabulous Red Diesel, Vocal Explosion, Jamie Smart, The Lockup Quartet, King Size Slim, Ingrid Pitt Orchestra, and Otti Albietz.

A 12-hour live body art exhibition by Victoria Gugenheim will see her transform a model into a piece of artwork on the theme of “liberation”.

Admission is £6, with under 16s and students free. Students should visit www.thebodycircus.co.uk for a free ticket.

The third part of United Colours of Rhythm will take place on the Saturday evening (October 5) at Roman’s Bar and Grill, in Robertson Street, and will be a Moulin Rouge-themed body art and DJ Extravaganza.

Body artists and face painters will include Lucy FX, Jennifer Smith, Lauren Beaney, and Agnieszka Dabrowska, as well as burlesque model Beulah Bell.

It runs from 9pm to 3am and admission is free (18+).

United Colours of Rhythm includes artists from around the UK including talented local musicians, and bands as well as other performing artists.

In recognition of Black History Month there will be a number of international food sellers including African and Afro-Caribbean foods and refreshments available at the St Mary in the Castle event.

The Body Circus, the organisation behind the extravaganza was established to promote the local diversity of music and the performing arts.

The first Body Circus event in May saw The Stade and other venues awash with colourful performances over three days.
