Festival of family events lineup at the De La Warr

The De La Warr Pavilion will play its part with family events including theatre, dance, films and the Big Draw.

The theatre production of What the Ladybird Heard (October 25 and 26)is based on the award-winning picture book by Julia Donaldson and Lydia Monks and features live music, puppetry and audience participation.

Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len have a cunning plan to steal the farmer’s fine prize cow. But they reckon without the tiniest, quietest creature of all: The Ladybird has a plan of her own.

On October 27 some of the greatest stars of the Moscow Ballet return to the Pavilion for what must be the most popular classical ballet of all time, Swan Lake.

Films showing as part of the family festival include Brave (PG), on October 19.

Set in the Scottish Highlands, a skilled archer named Merida defies an age-old custom, causing chaos in the kingdom by expressing the desire to not marry.

After consulting a witch for help, Merida accidentally transforms and casts a spell on her mother which she has to learn to undo it before it’s too late.

On October 23 will be a screening of Iron Man 3 (12).

Marvel’s Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds.

Another family activity, Mapping Futuropolis, will take place on October 20.

Futuropolis is an imaginary city of the future.

In the future most of the people on the planet will live in huge cities. Imagine a great city called Futuropolis. What could its buildings, roads, bridges and transport look like? How will its people dress and entertain themselves?

How will its food be grown and how might its plants have evolved?

Help draw a gigantic map of Futuropolis, and explore how cities grow in relation to the landscape around them.

This all-day family drawing and mapping event will help to prepare for the Big Draw at the end of the month, when a 3D Futuropolis will be built in the auditorium for everyone to draw on.

The Big Draw 2013 will run from October 29 to 31.

Award-winning Big Draw artist, Sheridan Quigley, is building a huge prototype 3D city in the auditorium, for visitors to draw on.
