Free music extravaganza to mark five years of Music's Not Dead

This will be on Saturday August 6 from 1.30-6pm and the event will feature MND favourites Emily Barker, Gill Sandell, Robert Chaney, Kristin McClement and The Equatorial Group.

Emily has just returned from Memphis and recording her latest album with Grammy-award winning producer Matt Ross-Spang. She is probably best known as the writer and performer of the award-winning theme to BBC1’s Wallander starring Kenneth Branagh. Last year’s acoustic album, The Toerag Sessions, was a UK Americana Album of the Year nominee, and this year saw the release of Applewood Road.

A regular visitor to Bexhill, where she has played no fewer than five in-store shows at Music’s Not Dead, Emily will be appearing here as a duo with longstanding friend Gill Sandell.

Robert Chaney is an American singer-songwriter from Florida, with a folk- and blues-derived sound often compared to Townes Van Zandt and John Prine. His self-released 2015 debut Cracked Picture Frames appeared on numerous best-of-year lists in the UK press and was critically lauded for its gut-wrenching storytelling, hypnotic performances, and sparse production.

Kristin’s music is born of two separate worlds; the vast shape shifting landscape of her childhood South Africa engraved with the melancholic romance of old England’s sacred woodland, rivers and valleys. Her debut album The Wild Grips was released in February 2015 via Brighton based independent label Willkommen Records.

Kristin’s live performances are accompanied by Jools Owen on drums, harmonium, trumpet and backing vocals. She has toured at home and abroad, sharing stages with Benjamin Clementine, Laura Marling, Jessica Pratt and Sam Lee, to name just a few.

The Equatorial Group are five friends from East Sussex sharing love of one-note guitar solos, stormy seas and heartache. Twe, Andy, Dave, James and Helen can produce a gentle landscape of sparkling harmonies or a thirst-inducing ramshackle racket, as the moment takes them.
