Hastings and District Soroptomist International

THE Christmas decorations have been packed away for another year and the New Year festivities are over. How many feel a sense of anti-climax in January?

Well this year there is no need. Why not come along to St. Peter's Community Centre, Old Town, on Friday, January 23, at 7pm for 'Supper with Soroptimists'.

A fun packed evening is guaranteed, with live entertainment from Bohemian Ukulele Band, a grand raffle with prizes donated by local shops and businesses and of course a scrumptious supper and bar. The aim of the evening is to raise much-needed funds for the Bexhill Branch of E.S.D.A - East Sussex Disability Association.

Soroptimist International is a worldwide organisation. Members are professional women of all ages, cultures and ethnic groups, who join their local clubs to give service to others. Hastings and District Soroptimist International president, Megan Traice, has chosen the Bexhill Branch of E.S.D.A. as her chosen charity for the year.

E.S.D.A. started in 1970 with a few people using their own cars to take disabled people out once a month. This has now grown and each month four coaches take out over 80 members (11 in wheelchairs) to such venues as Paradise Park, Kent and East Sussex Railway and Drusillas.

Very often this is the only trip out for some and without more funds many could be disappointed.

So beat those post-Christmas blues, have a great evening and know you are helping a very worthwhile local charity. Tickets are priced 10 and can be obtained from the St. Peter's Community Centre or by calling 01424 846026 or 01424 223416. Any ladies who would like to find out more about Soroptimist International would be welcomed. More information can be obtained by calling the numbers above.
