Hastings Senior Men's Forum

ON Tuesday, October 25, the 'lost' speaker of several weeks ago came to show his slides and talk about 'London - Royal Palaces and Crown Jewels', which turned out to be a revealing opportunity for many of us, familiar with the phrase "Crown Jewels", to find out just exactly what these are.

He began by showing a number of flags of the royal houses, illustrating their development over the years, followed by a series of slides of every one of these national treasures - crowns, sceptres and other less well known items such as golden spoons and oil containers,

There followed a long series of pictures of the royal palaces and other buildings and how they had fared over the years, most noticeably in the Great Fire of London.

Mr Williams also included many pictures of costume and armour through the centuries, and very detailed stories and pictures of kings and queens down the centuries, and how they had fared at the hands of their subjects.

Altogether a most detailed and rewarding potted history lesson, much enjoyed by a very full house of members of the Forum, who showed their appreciation with a hearty vote of thanks.
