Hotfoot Specials hit Rye for a barnstorming charity night

The hottest and most authentic Cajun music in the south is going to be served up at Rye Community Centre on Saturday April 9, courtesy of the Brighton-based Hotfoot Specials. The gig is a special benefit for the venue itself so this is expected to be a great night.

The Hotfoot Specials are making a welcome return to Rye having opened the 2015 Rye Arts Festival last September with a mix of Cajun two-steps and Cajun waltzes which got folks up on their feet dancing, or nodding along to their infectious rhythms. The Hotfoot Specials pledged their souls to Cajun culture many years ago and really sound as though they spent their whole lives in Louisiana eating po-boy sandwiches, gumbo and dirty rice. Chris Murphy plays the accordion and sings and is joined by Dan Stewart on guitar. Kirsten Hammond plays the violin while Grant Allardyce is on the drums. At the heart of the band is the virtuoso triangulist Mary Murphy, who plays her three-sided piece of iron with a style that you won’t find anywhere else this side of the pond.

For one night the Rye Community Centre is going to be transformed into the hottest music venue between New Orleans and and the Romney Bayou! And entrance costs £10 each, with proceeds going towards the ongoing upkeep of the venue.

Tickets can be bought in advance from Grammar School Records in Rye High St (tel 01797 222752) or on the door on the night. Doors open 7.30pm.
