Little Common Photographic Club

LITTLE Common Photographic Club played host to visitors from Ore and St Helen's Camera Club for an inter-club competition on Monday, November 24, judged by John Dowling, from the Bexhill Observer, whose interesting comments were concise and helpful.

The entry of 15 slides and 15 prints from each club was evenly balanced but Ore and St Helen's emerged winners in both categories with 251 points to Little Common's 241 in slides, followed by 259 points in prints to 251, but overall a most enjoyable evening.

Both previous meetings featured guest speakers. Firstly, a truly stunning lecture by previous club member Ray Bridges LRPS/CPAGB entitled 'Thinking on digital themes' followed a fortnight later with a print presentation by Roy Stubbs ARPS of local 1066 Mono Club, showing their members' varied black and wihte darkroom work.

A selection of five slides from four club workers were entered in the annual Sussex Photographic Federation Slide Convention which took place at Hailsham Community Hall with judge Mike Chambers, ARPS, MPAGB, EFIAP, on Sunday, November 30.

Again, only 16 clubs competed as many clubs now have fewer slide workers but there was still a wide variety of subjects among the excellent slides.

Little Common came joint third with Hailsham on 82 points from a possible 100, being 10 points behind top club Rye and District, and due to this great improvement over last year's 13th place, the Saxon Trophy for the Most Improved Club in the competition was awarded to Little Common.

The club's entry was Grass, by Dorothy Reeve; Great Horned Owl and Swallowtail Butterfly by John Larkin; Winter by June Larkin and Moored, by Sue Clarke.
